The nation’s girl group continues to rule the OPM scene as BINI bags the Top Local Artist of the Year honor at the launch of The Official Philippines Chart

MANILA, Philippines – It’s the cherry on top, indeed.

P-pop girl group BINI bagged the coveted Top Local Artist of the Year honor at the launch of The Official Philippines Chart on Wednesday, February 19, at the Clubhouse BGC at The Palace.

The event, backed by the Philippine Recorded Music Rights Inc. (PRM) and The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), cited BINI’s “impact in 2024” that made them a “formidable force in pop culture.”

BINI — whose hits include “Pantropiko,” “Salamin, Salamin,” and “Cherry on Top” — claimed the No. 1 spot in the list released by The Official Philippines Chart, an “industry-backed weekly music chart showcasing the top-performing tracks from local and international artists in the country based on streaming across all major platforms.”

BINI’s leader Jhoanna said the group is proud of the growing OPM scene, as they joined the other big names in the music industry during the glitzy event.

“Thriving,” said Jhoanna, describing the local music industry. “Noong nag start ang taon na ‘to, parang everything is about OPM — concerts, hindi lang one day na sold out, nagto-two days sold out ang lahat ng artists na nagpe-perform sa lahat ng malalaking arenas natin dito sa Pilipnas.”

(When this year started, everything is about OPM — concerts, they’re not just sold out for one day. Even the two-day concerts of all artists get sold out, and they’re performing in all the big arenas here in the Philippines.)

“Numbers don’t lie. They tell a story, a narrative that reflects the hard work, dedication, and passion that our artists pour into their craft every single day,” said Roslyn Pineda, Sony Music Philippines general manager and PRM board member.

“With the transparency and visibility provided by The Official Philippine Charts, we now have a clear picture of who is resonating with our audiences, who is breaking barriers, and who is truly making waves in the music scene. This data is critical; it provides insights that can help us understand the ever-evolving landscape of our industry.” – Rappler.com
