BINI, Liza Soberano hit San Diego Comic-Con for 'Forgotten Island'

MANILA, Philippines — Filipina pride washed over this year's San Diego Comic-Con as the likes of BINI, Liza Soberano, and H.E.R. showed up at the annual event to promote their upcoming animated film "Forgotten Island."

The movie, co-directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the latter a Filipino-American, is inspired by Filipino folklore and mythology.

Best friends Raissa and Jo (Liza and H.E.R, respectively) end up stranded in the mystical world of the forgotten island of Nakali, where the only way home may mean losing a lifetime of memories and emotions.

Also lending their voices in the film are Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy, Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto, Filipino-American actress Amielynn Abellera, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate and Ronny Chieng.

Dreamworks Animation scheduled a panel for the movie at Comic-Con on July 24, Friday (the early hours of the 25th in the Philippines) attended by Liza, H.E.R., Franco, and the two directors.

H.E.R., whose real name is Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, showed up to the panel with an image of bayanihan — a community helping carry a straw hut — on her white t-shirt.

BINI had a surprise appearance at Comic-Con as the Nation's Girl Group performed a new song, "A Parallel World," which appears on the film's soundtrack.

The P-Pop act later linked up with the "Forgotten Island" crew for photo opportunities, including one outside holding cups of halo-halo.

The girl group also mingled in an arcade activation by Dreamworks Animation as the film got a special screening nearby.

The timing of activities was perfect for BINI, who are in the United States to begin the international legs of its "Signals" world tour right at the start of August.

"Forgotten Island," meanwhile, will hit Philippine theaters beginning September 23.
