SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — Best Western Plus Hotel Subic, which prides itself as the first internationally branded hotel in this free port, has set a P600-milion project for a new building to expand its operations here.

Best Western Plus Hotel Subic Chairman and CEO Jaime “Jack” Uy said the expansion project addresses the “current need for more spaces, function halls, and rooms” that would complement its four-star property along Dewey Avenue at Subic’s central business district.

Uy, who is Best Western Hotel’s franchise operator in the country, signed the investment contract on Tuesday, March 31, with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño and Architect Jayson Steffen Uy, vice president for Facility and Construction of Savers Group Holdings Inc. (SGHI)

SGHI is the exclusive developer for Best Western Hotel franchise in the country.

Uy said the new building will be an extension of the five-story Best Western Plus Hotel Subic, which has 94 rooms and a rooftop pool and bar.

He said the company has committed investment worth P587,967,200 for the extension building, with construction set to start as early as the first quarter of 2027 following the design phase.

Architect Uy, meanwhile, said the new building will have 120 hotel rooms, several commercial spaces, a three-floor parking area, restaurants, and parks.

Aliño welcomed the expansion project and cited the growing need for hotels and leisure establishments in Subic Bay. He added that aside from the company's committed investment, the agency also appreciates job opportunities the new hotel project would generate.

Uy assured the SBMA official that the company intends to source its manpower requirements locally.

Best Western Plus Hotel Subic originally started operations in 2016 as the first midscale hotel in Subic affiliated with an international brand.

It underwent extensive renovation in 2024 and relaunched in August last year.

The Best Western Plus franchise operates accommodation facilities in several high-traffic tourism areas across the country: Best Western Plus Metro Clark in Angeles City; Best Western Plus The Ivywall Hotel in Puerto Princesa; Best Western Plus The Ivywall Resort-Panglao in Cebu; and Best Western Plus Lex Cebu in Cebu City.
