BCCP Executive/Trustee Chris Nelson emphasized the strong growth of the meat trade, stating, "It is going to continue to grow; it has been very strong. I also think that reflects the fact that we continue to be the second-largest market in Asia."

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) reported that from January to October 2024, pork volumes rose to 17,590 tons, a 21 percent increase, and beef volumes reached 1,810 tons, marking a 224 percent rise compared to 2023.

This follows the lifting of a temporary ban on UK meat imports by the Philippine Department of Agriculture on Oct. 11, 2024, after the resolution of mad cow disease cases.

In December 2024, inflation rose to 2.9 percent, with meat contributing significantly at 27.4 percent. UK meat imports have supported food security and helped stabilize food prices.

The BCCP remains committed to partnering with the Philippine Department of Agriculture to ensure safe, high-quality meat imports, and strengthen UK-Philippine trade relations.
