BATANGAS State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU The NEU), has climbed from the 601–800 to the 401–600 band in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings out of 2,318 institutions worldwide. Among 113 Philippine universities, BatStateU placed second, reaffirming its leadership in inclusive, sustainable development.
Despite tougher global competition, BatStateU achieved its highest performance score yet — 74.9, marking a 10.47 percent increase from 2024. "This reflects the steadfast efforts of our academic community," said Dr. Tirso Ronquillo, university president.
The Impact Rankings assess university contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching. BatStateU excelled in four SDGs, with SDG 5: Gender Equality ranking 68th globally — its best yet — fueled by a rise in senior female leadership and support for first-generation female students. High marks in SDG 6 (Clean Water), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land) also contributed to its overall growth.
BatStateU outperformed global averages in nine SDGs, including SDG 17: Partnerships. As the country's largest engineering university, it is the first state university with ABET-accredited engineering and computing programs.
Sustainability efforts are led by its Center for Sustainable Development, which integrates sustainability across instruction, research, innovation, extension, and services.
