COTABATO CITY — More than 20 jobseekers were hired by various establishments, while three programs of the Bangsamoro labor ministry received cash grants as operational support during its Labor Day commemoration on Friday, May 1.
Reports from participating agencies showed that 3,207 individuals, including jobseekers and applicants for membership with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the Social Security System (SSS), benefited from the Labor Day outreach activity of the Ministry of Labor and Employment–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MoLE-BARMM) on Friday.
The daylong activity, led by Bangsamoro Labor and Employment Minister Muslimin Sema, was held at a function facility of KCC Mall in Cotabato City, the regional capital of BARMM.
Sema and his subordinate officials told reporters on Monday that 22 of the more than 471 jobseekers assisted by public service teams during the event were immediately hired by various private companies and are set to begin work upon completion of documentary requirements.
The MoLE-BARMM Labor Day humanitarian mission was supported by Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulrauf Macacua, several agencies and ministries under his office, Bangsamoro Business Council chair Ronald Hallid Torres, former Maguindanao First District representative Bai Sandra Sema, and BARMM parliament member Alindatu Pagayao.
Officials from the Civil Service Commission–BARMM, PhilHealth, and SSS also served a number of clients during the event, according to the ministry’s information team.
Sema said 17 private firms offered a total of 1,402 job vacancies during the outreach activity, 24 of which were filled on the spot.
“We are very grateful to the different sectors, the agencies and private entities that supported that activity," Sema said.
The event also saw the MoLE-BARMM distribute P50,000 each to four workers’ organizations under its Bangsamoro Rural Employment through Entrepreneurial Development Program.
Radio reports on Monday, May 4, said the ministry also provided P100,000 in assistance to a former overseas Bangsamoro worker whose spouse had recently passed away.
Another overseas Bangsamoro worker received P30,000 in financial aid after becoming physically unable to continue working abroad, under the ministry’s Social Benefit Program.
