COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Three vehicles in the convoy of Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, including the bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser he was riding in, were shot at by still unidentified gunmen along a stretch of highway in Barangay Bito, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte yesterday.
All passengers in the three vehicles that were hit by rifle fire survived the attack unscathed.
The gunmen, positioned along the highway, reportedly opened fire with assault rifles as Macacua’s convoy passed through the area at about 4:45 p.m.
The acting commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, Brig. Gen. Ricky Bunayog, and Brig. Gen. Michael Abecia separately told reporters that personnel from their intelligence units are helping officials of the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station investigate the incident.
The gunshots that reverberated through the area caused panic among villagers in nearby communities.
