BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A barangay chairman, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) member and a Chinese tagged as the most wanted person in Calabarzon were arrested in separate operations in Negros Island, police said.

In Victorias City, Negros Occidental, the chairman of Barangay 12, identified only as Gar, was arrested for illegal possession of firearms during a search at his residence in Hacienda Nasipunan.

The operation, conducted by the Victorias City police, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Regional Mobile Force Battalion, resulted in the seizure of a caliber .22 revolver, 69 bullets and a hand grenade.

In Cadiz City, a 26-year-old SK member, identified only as Bingbong, and two of his cohorts were arrested during a sting in Barangay Tinampa-an. Police tagged the youth leader as a high-value individual in its campaign against illegal drugs.

Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, Negros Island Region police chief, said the arrests demonstrate that no wanted people can evade justice when law enforcers work together.

In Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, police arrested Xiang Fupei, a former Philippine offshore gaming operator employee tagged as the most wanted in Calabarzon.

Xiang was apprehended based on a warrant for violation of Republic Act 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Law.

The suspect allegedly stole a luxury multi-purpose vehicle in 2021 and demanded P3 million for its return.

“Time does not diminish the force of a warrant, nor does it erase accountability,” said Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, National Capital Region Police Office chief.

The NCRPO operatives arrested the suspect in Barangay Looc.
