Baguio City welcomes Year of Wooden Snake

BAGUIO CITY — "We greatly value relationships, and this celebration fosters a closer and stronger bond between the Filipino and Chinese communities."

Businessman and civic leader Peter Ng made the statement during the launching program of the Spring Festival Chinese New Year 2025 on Jan. 20 at the Baguio City Hall grounds, with Mayor Benjamin Magalong as one of the guests.

Ng, who chairs the event's executive committee, said that the annual festival's goal is to promote better understanding and cooperation between the Filipino and Chinese communities to strengthen their historical friendship and unity.

The city government and the Filipino Chinese community in Baguio have continuously partnered together for over 27 years, he revealed.

Ng, a pillar of the city's Chinoy community, said this year's celebration "will once again highlight the importance of the Spring Festival of renewing our commitment to camaraderie and cooperation."

"The assimilation and blending of these two unique cultures through this celebration will definitely promote unity, peace and prosperity for all of us," said Ng.

"Let us all join hands and bring cheers to the people of Baguio. And let us welcome the Year of the Wooden Snake with much determination, wisdom and vigor," said Ng, stressing that this celebration is not only for the Chinoy, but for the whole community of Baguio.

The program was highlighted with a traditional Dragon and Lion dance, unveiling of the festival's calendar of activities, the mayor's message, presentation of tokens to all city officials, Search for the Outstanding Citizens of Baguio launching, congressional update from Rep. Marquez Go, among others.
