MANILA, Philippines — United Arab Emirates’ top premium fresh food supermarket brand Spinneys is poised to anchor key Ayala Malls with the opening of 12 stores across Metro Manila over the next four years.

ACX Holdings Corp., the retail arm of conglomerate Ayala Corp. and Spinneys, a leading premium fresh food supermarket chain in the UAE, will commence opening of stores by the fourth quarter.

Spinneys will open its first locations at Ayala Malls U.P. Town Center in Quezon City and San Antonio Plaza Arcade in Makati.

The stores will offer differentiated and premium grocery retail that complements the broader mall experience.

Ayala managing director and Ayala Land head of leasing and hospitality Mariana Zobel de Ayala said Spinneys is a valuable addition to the Philippine grocery landscape.

“Premium grocery retail today is about more than what’s on the shelves – it’s about curation, service and the joy of discovery. The entry of Spinneys brings a new dimension to grocery shopping, expanding the range of choices available locally and further enriching our dynamic retail landscape,” she said.

In September last year, Ayala entered a strategic business venture with Spinneys to open stores in the Philippines.

Spinneys is owned by the Al Seer Group, a consumer holdings company that is part of a UAE-based group with business interests in industries such as food, retail, hospitality, shipyards and construction, with presence in over 20 countries.

The move reflects Ayala Malls’ deep understanding of evolving Filipino consumer behavior.

Ayala Malls said that as the country’s affluent segment expands, shoppers are becoming more sophisticated, globally exposed and discerning.

It said many now seek the same premium grocery experiences they enjoy abroad, valuing high quality, a well-selected assortment as well as a relaxed and refined atmosphere that transforms grocery shopping into a lifestyle experience.
