Good music comes from different directions around the world with beat and lyrics that hold a listener’s attention.
Feel Like Rubber, a release from the Australian indie pop duo Coco Elise, is a song that one should give a listen to.
Its local publicity says that it is “a smooth, jazzy track that explores the uncertainty of young love and the tug-of-war between commitment and freedom.”
It has that easy-listening, cool feel as a music enthusiast follows the words set in music, through the creativity of the project, band Coco Elise.
To start the virtual group interview, Isaiah Quintana, born in the Philippines and moved to Australia, and Josh Ellis, introduced themselves and talked about the work they do for Coco Elise.
“I do drums and help manage the project,” said Isaiah. “We’ve made music together since, like high school.”
Josh added, “I sort of do the production side of things. I’m the lead singer in the band.”
They are also writers and the face of Coco Elise.
“We’ve been doing this project for two and a bit years now, and yeah, it has been amazing,” shared Isaiah.
Asked how similar or different Feel Like Rubber is to their previous ditties, soundscape- and lyrics-wise, Isaiah said that in the first few songs, the duo was figuring things out and “playing around, trying to find what sounds we could make, whatever was cool.”
The lyrics did talk about stuff, added he. It had one idea, which they developed further.
They had a fun experience and focused on the sound a little bit more and aspects they liked.
“It’s definitely taken on a slightly more like indie soul folk, vintage vibe to it, but it just kinda makes sense ‘coz we’ve always been into that type of music,” said Isaiah.
If ever there’s any difference, the music makes them a little bit warmer.
Josh added that “the song that makes me feel the most warm and it makes me feel really happy when I’m listening to it, a lot of times,” but other songs also do that to some extent.
With their songs that have been released and the ones in their troves, can followers anticipate a compilation album?
Isaiah answered that they slightly sort of talked about it. They have been cooking a lot of tunes together and “at the end of it, it’ll very much be like a compilation.”
But they will release the other songs individually with a “sort of vintage warmth sound, that is cohesive throughout the last few tracks and the next couple.”
“I think it captures a nice bit of storytelling and where we are in making music in sort of the last year or so, well, last two years,” said Isaiah.
“I think there’s a general theme that we’re running about and that we’re making at the moment,” shared Josh, adding that they would also love to make an album.
A piece of information also says that the duo “has rapidly emerged as one of Australia’s most compelling new acts” and “received early support from Vice Australia, Rolling Stone Australia and EARMILK, in addition to landing on multiple Spotify and Apple editorials.”
