Ang files multiple criminal complaints against his former employee Julie Patidongan over alleged robbery and slander, among others
MANILA, Philippines – Businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang on Thursday, July 3, filed multiple criminal complaints against the accused who tagged him in the missing sabungeros (cockfight enthusiasts) case.
Ang filed the following complaints against Julie “Alyas Totoy/Dondon” Patidongan and Alan Bantiles before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office:
- Robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons (article 294 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC))
- Grave threats (Article 282)
- Grave coercion (Article 286)
- Slander (Article 358)
- Incriminating innocent person (Article 363)
Patidongan, in a GMA News interview, claimed that Ang was the alleged mastermind behind the sabungeros’ abductions. He also tagged actress Gretchen Barreto in the case.
The accused was among the six suspects who face kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases for the disappearance of six sabungeros in Manila in 2022. Patidongan and other accused are currently free from detention as their petition that challenges the invalidation of their bail is still pending before the Supreme Court.
In his complaint-affidavit, Ang confirmed that Patidongan, a native of Surigao del Sur, used to work under him as farm manager. Ang said that Patidongan oversaw the farm’s general maintenance and daily operations, and also supervised security and manpower deployment.
While Patidongan was in hiding, Ang claimed the former had a clandestine meeting with other personnel where he “openly discussed to carry out a grave and calculated criminal scheme that included the kidnapping and eventual murder” of Ang, extortion of ransom money, and robbery from Ang’s various residences.
Bantiles was tagged in the affidavit as the “main supporter and facilitator” in carrying out the plans against the businessman.
“The plan was not only premeditated but shockingly detailed, with the primary objective of unlawfully obtaining a substantial amount of cash and other valuable assets registered under my name,” Ang said in his affidavit.
Ang knew of the plan through his security personnel, Rogelio Borican Jr., who refused to participate in the plan and later told the businessman about Patidongan’s intentions. Ang also said that the respondents allegedly extorted money from him on different occasions.
“According to my lawyers, while the unlawful taking was not consummated, the respondents unmistakably commenced the execution of the crime of robbery, as evidenced by their deliberate and overt acts directed toward extorting money from me. These included repeated and unequivocal monetary demands, made in conjunction with escalating threats and forms of intimidation, notably the threat of false criminal implication in a serious offense as mentioned in my statements above,” the complaint read.
Ang said when the media was made aware of his plan to file complaints, Patidongan appeared on television and mentioned him as the alleged mastermind in the abductions.
“In this case, in releasing his statements, though I was previously unnamed, Dondon provided enough information insinuating me in the heinous crime involving the “missing sabungeros,” Ang said in his complaint.
He aded: “As he has likewise explicitly implicated me as the mastermind behind the case of the ‘missing sabungeros,’ despite lack of credible evidence other than this own self-serving claims, this falls within the purview of incriminating innocent persons.” – Rappler.com
