MANILA, Philippines — Port operator Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) has taken in the delivery of two ship-to-shore cranes for the Manila South Harbor, increasing the terminal’s capacity by 38 percent as trade picks up.
ATI is raising the harbor’s capacity to two million twenty-foot equivalent units from 1.45 million TEUs, following the completion of infrastructure upgrades, along with the procurement of new assets.
The port operator recently added two cranes to the Manila South Harbor to bolster its capacity in moving containers from ship to the terminal.
To date, Manila South Harbor is operating with a fleet of 11 cranes, along with conventional and hybrid gantries, enabling it to process more shipments.
ATI said adding new cranes is crucial for the Manila South Harbor to keep up with customer requirements.
On top of this, ATI is close to finishing the redevelopment of Pier 3 at the Manila South Harbor. The project extends the pier’s quay length to almost 600 meters, allowing it to dock larger ships carrying more goods.
The Manila South Harbor is also equipped with neopanamax cranes, made by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. and considered to be the largest of its kind in the Philippines.
ATI director William Khoury said the Manila South Harbor is ready to welcome bigger ships and process more containers, especially as trade regains its pace in the pandemic aftermath.
