AFP’s West PH Sea spox on 2016 Arbitral Award, modernizing the military

Rappler talks to Roy Vincent Trinidad, the military's West Philippine Sea spokesperson, about the gains and challenges a decade after the landmark ruling

MANILA, Philippines – Ten years ago on July 12, an Arbitral Tribunal constituted under Article 7 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea found that China’s so-called historical claim over the South China Sea was invalid, and that the Philippines’ 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea — an area Manila calls the West Philippine Sea — was intact.

In this episode of Ask Me Anything, Rappler senior reporter Bea Cupin talks about the 2016 Arbitral Award, its continued significance, and how the Philippines should and can ensure its implementation with retired Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea. – Rappler.com
