BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A cadet of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) has graduated from the United States Military Academy Class of 2026, adding to the growing number of Filipino cadets trained at West Point.
Cadet First Class Renzo Jamir Almodovar, of General Trias in Cavite and member of PMA “Siklab-Laya” Class of 2025, earned a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs with focus on strategic studies after four years of training at West Point under the foreign pre-commission training institute program.
The PMA said the 22-year-old Almodovar received several distinctions during his stay in the US, including the German Armed Forces proficiency badge (Gold), Norwegian foot march badge (Silver), Dean’s List honors and the USMA Recondo Qualification.
He is set to join the Philippine Army and hopes to qualify for the Scout Ranger and Special Forces units while pursuing military intelligence specialization.
A 2003 Armed Forces report said 72 Filipinos had graduated from West Point since 1918, a roster that includes former president Fidel Ramos and former AFP chief Gen. Narciso Abaya.
