MANILA, Philippines — Rescuers retrieved another body from the rubble of a collapsed building in Angeles City, Pampanga on Monday morning, June 1, bringing the death toll to 12.
The body of the 12th casualty, a male, was extricated at around 4 a.m., according to the Angeles City Public Information Office.
"The City Health Office immediately carried out the necessary Disaster Victim Identification process to ensure the proper handling of the victim’s remains," the local government said in Filipino.
Authorities earlier retrieved six bodies from the incident site on Sunday, May 31.
The Angeles City Police Office has released the identities of three victims: Larry Sueno, 48; Elsa Angcao, 50; and her husband, Joey Angcao, 48.
Ongoing operations. Aside from ongoing retrieval and clearing operations, the Angeles City Health Office also conducted disinfection procedures at the site to protect responders.
Two city building officials have also been placed under preventive suspension as the investigation continues.
Representatives of the owner and contractor of the nine-story building, which was under construction when it collapsed, addressed the public on Saturday, May 30, and said they would face their responsibilities and help the victims’ families.
