MANILA, Philippines — Australian home and lifestyle brand Anko is set to open its first non-Ayala mall branch.

Signages have been displayed for a new Anko store in Gateway Mall 1 in Cubao, Quezon City.

The upcoming store will be the Anko’s sixth branch in the country.

All five existing Anko stores in the Philippines are inside Ayala malls, with its most recent branch that opened in November last year located at Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig City.

Anko, which was established in 2017 and is part of the Kmart Group, entered the country through a partnership with the Ayala Group with the opening of its first store in Glorietta 2, Makati in November 2024.

In just one year, it has opened five stores in Metro Manila, including Ayala Malls TriNoma, Alabang Town Center, Manila Bay and Feliz.

Ayala is bullish on growing Anko’s presence in the Philippines, with plans of doubling Anko’s network in the country to at least 10 stores this year to make its products accessible to more Filipinos.

“It’s been an exceptional first year. We are so grateful for the way Filipino families have embraced Anko. This first year has strengthened our confidence in the Philippines as a growth market and in our broader global strategy. It pushes us to keep listening, learning, and adapting, so we can continue to deliver products that truly add value to everyday living,” Anko Global CEO Arjun Puri said in an earlier statement.

This year, Anko is expected to open stores in more non-Ayala malls.

“Our partnership with Ayala Malls has been instrumental in our growth – they share our commitment to creating meaningful shopping experiences for families,” Puri said.

“While Ayala Malls remains a key partner, we’re always open to opportunities that allow us to serve more customers conveniently. Our priority is finding spaces that align with Anko’s identity as a welcoming, community-centered brand,” he said.

Ayala decided to partner with Anko because of the latter’s concept that was regarded as game-changing in Australia, catering to a major pain point in the market.

Anko provides good quality and well-designed products ranging from homewares, toys, beauty and travel products, which are sold at a price point that is affordable even to the middle-class or even the lower-class Filipinos.
