Andrea Brillantes as her RAMONA identity
Sony Music Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — Andrea Brillantes is giving the music world a go with the release of her debut single "GAGA" using the alter ego RAMONA, taken from the actress' birth name.
The song's release was the culmination of the perceived hacking of Andrea's Instagram account when in fact it was RAMONA taking control for the time being.
"GAGA," written by RAMONA and produced by One Click Straight's Tim and Sam Marquez, is a sharp-witted commentary on celebrity gossip, fake news, and misinformation distorting truth in the social media age.
The artist takes terms often used to describe women sharing their side of the story like "pa-victim," "malandi," and "toxic," turning them into hollow words in the track's lyrics.
"People talk, people guess, people decide what's true before they even know anything," the singer said in a statement, adding her song " just throws it all back."
RAMONA went on to describe her debut release as "bold, emotional, a little rebellious, a little messy, and not pretending to be perfect."
The singer also wrote, oversaw the creative direction, and acted in the rock song's music video opposite comedian Pepe Herrera.
The music video stars Herrera as a security guard falsely accused of robbery and RAMONA plays his lawyer in the courtroom that slowly becomes a venue of mayhem. — Video from RAMONA's YouTube channel
