MANILA, Philippines — Business group American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) welcomed the House of Representatives’ approval of the proposed Blue Economy Act, which would promote the sustainable development of marine resources and enhance the country’s position as a location for investments.

In a statement yesterday, AmCham commended the House of Representatives for approving the proposed Blue Economy Act on its third and final reading.

AmCham has long supported the Blue Economy agenda across several Congresses as the chamber considers a well-governed blue economy essential to strengthening the country’s competitiveness.

It is also expected to enable the country to attract quality investment and create high-value jobs, particularly in coastal and island communities.

The proposed measure seeks to establish a comprehensive national framework for the sustainable development and governance of the country’s vast marine and coastal resources.

It recognizes the maritime domain as a critical economic, environmental and strategic asset.

The bill also puts emphasis on coordinated governance, science-based policymaking and the mobilization of public and private investment.

These are expected to help realize the full potential of ocean-based sectors.

For AmCham, the bill is a key component of the government’s goal to achieve inclusive growth, enhance public service delivery and foster collaboration with the private sector.

“These reforms are aligned with international best practices and global sustainability goals, positioning the Philippines as a regional leader in responsible and resilient maritime development,” AmCham said.

The group aims to work closely with all stakeholders to support the successful enactment and implementation of the Blue Economy Act, as well as other reforms to promote sustainable growth and long-term economic resilience.
