The Osaka Marvelous shuffle through NU Lady Bulldogs legends for their import slot, signing former UAAP Finals MVP Alyssa Solomon to replace Denso-bound Jaja Santiago
MANILA, Philippines – Japan SV.League will see another NU Lady Bulldog in its Asian player quota.
Alyssa Solomon has signed with the Osaka Marvelous, the former squad of fellow NU icon Jaja Santiago, on Tuesday, September 16, about a week after announcing that she is headed to the Land of the Rising Sun.
It will be Solomon’s first foray into the professional scene since finishing her NU career with three championships alongside current top PVL rookie pick Bella Belen.
The former UAAP Finals MVP was set to join the 2025 Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Draft, but later pulled out of her commitment after the UAAP reaffirmed its stance of barring student-athletes from declaring for any professional league draft.
“Solomon is an opposite who has competed in many international tournaments as the Philippines’ representative, and she has a great variety of aggressiveness,” the team wrote.
“With the addition of Solomon, we will strengthen our team capabilities even more and move forward to achieving a consecutive title in the SV.League.”
Santiago, now a Japanese national and known as Sachi Minowa, helped Osaka win the V.League championship in the 2024-2025 season. She’s married to Japanese coach Taka Minowa.
A former PVL champion and Finals MVP, Santiago had been with the Marvelous since 2023, before transferring to the Denso Airybess for the 2025-2026 season, essentially making way for the Solomon signing.
Solomon, at only 23 years old, has been a mainstay for Alas Pilipinas Women, helping the national team to back-to-back bronze finishes in the Southeast Asian V. League. – Rappler.com
