The Philippine women’s volleyball team salvages a win in the SEA V. League to claim a podium finish in the Vietnam leg of the regional tournament
MANILA, Philippines – Add another one to Alas Pilipinas’ bronze medal collection.
Wrapping up the 2025 SEA V. League, Alas Women completed a sweep of Indonesia, 25-17, 25-17, 28-26, to capture another bronze on Sunday, August 10, in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
The Philippines — which opened the leg with back-to-back losses to regional powerhouses Thailand and Vietnam — now holds six third-place finishes in the Southeast Asian tournament and snagged its fourth straight bronze medal in the SEA V-League.
In control throughout the first two sets, the Filipinas sustained their fury up until the third frame, where the Indonesians held the driver’s seat for most of the period before Alas stormed back late to seal the straight-set win.
Trailing 18-21, Alas leaned on Eya Laure’s timely hits to tie it up at 22-all. Bella Belen then took the cudgels from there, scoring three attacks in the final stretch en route to the podium finish.
However, the win was bittersweet, as Alyssa Solomon was stretchered off the court following an injury scare that saw her knee hit the taraflex floor in the first set.
She eventually returned to the bench in the second set but was not fielded the rest of the way.
Solomon was among the players who set the tone for Alas as they zoomed to a 17-10 lead in the first frame and never looked back.
Alas again pulled away midway through the second set, igniting a 9-2 run to take another 17-10 cushion and barge on the cusp of a sweep.
After the bronze-medal run, Alas now sets its focus on the team buildup for the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in December.
Later this month, the Nationals will play a tuneup match against World No. 11 Dominican Republic in Manila as part of their preparations for the regional games. – Rappler.com
