MANILA, Philippines — The brother of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano has been appointed as the new general manager of state broadcast network People's Television Network (PTV).

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez announced the appointment of former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano as PTV’s new general manager on Wednesday, June 3.

Cayetano will replace Maria Lourdes Fagar as PTV’s general manager.

“Former Mayor Cayetano brings with him a rare wealth of experience from the media, the private & the public sector that would certainly take PTV 4 to greater heights in our ever-evolving multi-media landscape,” Gomez said in a statement.

“I would also like to extend my profound gratitude to GM Fagar for her service to the station and the nation,” he added.

Lino is the youngest sibling of Sens. Pia Cayetano and Alan Peter Cayetano.

Both lawmakers belong to the majority bloc, which did not appear at Senate plenary sessions from June 1 to June 2 in what Alan Peter described as a “protest” to assert the “independence of the Senate.”

This came after the arrest of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada on plunder charges linked to flood control projects.

With his appointment as general manager, Lino will be working under the Office of the President — an office currently at odds with members of the Senate majority bloc led by his brother.
