MANILA, Philippines — The League of Filipino Actors (AKTOR) has also slammed the inappropriate remark of Quezon City 4th District representative Bong Suntay about actress Anne Curtis.
In a statement on Facebook, AKTOR, led by Dingdong Dantes and Iza Calzado, maintained that Suntay's actions were an affront to the dignity of women.
“Invoking a woman in a derogatory and sexualized manner in a formal public proceeding is deeply inappropriate and unacceptable. Regardless of intent, there is no justification for language that objectifies or degrades women — especially from those entrusted with public office. As the country observes National Women’s Month, this incident highlights the continuing need for gender sensitivity, respect, and accountability in our public spaces. AKTOR stands firmly against misogyny in all forms and will always defend the dignity and respect of our members," the group said.
Meanwhile, other celebrities, such as Jodi Sta. Maria, Ogie Alcasid and Amy Perez, also called out Suntay to defend Anne.
“The analogy wasn’t malicious said the person who made the remark. But the impact was clear… it made people, most especially women, feel disgusted and disrespected," Jodi said.
“If that kind of analogy was used to make a point it clearly reveals the mindset of the person who said it. That’s not something we should normalize,” she added.
Amy stressed the need for basic respect for women after the lawmaker made the remarks last Tuesday, March 3, during the hearing for the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte. She also stressed that the issue goes beyond political leanings and alliances.
“Basic respect for women involves recognizing their inherent dignity, equality, and agency as human beings, not just polite courtesy," she said.
“It requires active listening, valuing their opinions, ensuring their safety from objectification or harassment. #womensmonth. Disgusting talaga! I’m so disappointed Mr. Representative. Hindi ito usapin kung kakapink ka o dds ka o uniteam ka ang point ay may BABAE na nabastos sa isip at salita!
“Tanong lang ikaw gusto mo ba na yung Nanay mo, Ate mo, Tita mo at pinsan mo na babae ay pag isipan ng ganun? Wag nating piliting maging tama ang isang mali.”
Ogie posted on his social media with “We stand with @annecurtissmith.”
