President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. speaks upon the acceptance of the final report from the The Second Congressional Commission on Education on Jan. 30, 2026.
PCO
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remained tight-lipped on the impeachment case filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, opting to welcome the dismissal of impeachment complaints against him.
The House of Representatives' justice committee earlier ruled that the impeachment case against Marcos was insufficient in substance, effectively junking the complaint.
Speaking to reporters at the opening of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Allied Health Sciences building, Marcos said the House was simply performing its constitutional role.
"I'm glad that, of course — I'm glad that the impeachment complaints against me have been — are finished," Marcos said. "I'm happy it's done and we can get on with our work, you know, because these things are distractions from the things that we were doing."
‘No real grounds'
Marcos said he was not concerned about the complaint against him, adding that he believed it lacked merit.
"Although I wasn't very worried because I saw the impeachment complaint and I knew that I would be all right in terms of the impeachment," he said. "There were no real grounds for the impeachment. It was a political move, as usual."
While Marcos emerged unscathed, the House justice committee is set to proceed with the impeachment case against Duterte.
Asked to comment on his former running mate's impeachment case, the president declined, saying it was the House's job.
"I'm sure they will handle it properly," the president said. "So let them do their jobs."
