MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Ada is expected to weaken further and may dissipate into a low-pressure area (LPA) as it moves away from the country, while another LPA outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) remains under monitoring, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

In its 5 p.m. forecast, PAGASA reported that the center of Ada was located about 970 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, moving eastward over the Philippine Sea at 25 kilometers per hour.

The system had maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, gusts of up to 70 kph and strong winds extending outward up to 400 kilometers.

No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently hoisted, as Ada no longer affects any part of the country.

Ada is forecast to move generally southeastward over the next 24 hours. Continuous dry air from the northeast monsoon is expected to weaken the system further, with PAGASA predicting it may be downgraded to an LPA today.

Despite Ada’s weakening, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring strong gale-force gusts, particularly over coastal and upland areas.

Strong winds are expected today and tomorrow over most of Luzon, the Visayas, Caraga, the Davao Region, the Zamboanga Peninsula and parts of Northern Mindanao and the Bangsamoro region.

The northeast monsoon continues to affect much of northern and central Luzon, bringing cloudy skies and possible light rains over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon and Marinduque. — Michael Punongbayan
