MANILA, Philippines — Veteran actor Amay Bisaya has passed away. He was 67.
Katipunan ng mga Artistang Pilipino sa Pelikula at Telebisyon Inc. confirmed his death on Facebook.
"Roberto Reyes, renowned actor known as 'Amay Bisaya,' has sadly passed away," the group said.
"On behalf of the KAPPT Actors Guild of the Philippines, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to our beloved friend. May he rest in peace," it added.
According to a report on entertainment site Pep.ph, Amay passed away due to complications from diabetes.
Amay was known as the sidekick in films starring renowned action stars Fernando Poe Jr. and Ramon Revilla Sr.
Last 2022, a rumor spread on social media that the comedian has passed away. Entertainment site Pep.ph reported that it is not true.
“Paninira yan! Hindi totoo iyon. Maraming naninira, e,” Amay said.
“Okey naman ang kalusugan ko. Wala akong sakit. Lahat ng mga naninira sa akin, ipinagpapasa-Diyos ko na lang, kasi wala naman mangyayari.
"Kung masaya sila, makonsiyensya naman sila sa ginagawa nila."
Amay Bisaya's film credits as listed in IMDB include "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story" (2011), "Tondo: Libingan ng mga Siga" (1992), and "Pepeng Kuryente" (1988).
