’MANILA, Philippines — Ayala-led ACEN Corp. has forged another renewable energy deal with insurance giant Insular Life (InLife), this time to power the latter’s corporate headquarters in Makati and Muntinlupa.
Under the agreement, power retailer ACEN RES will provide InLife with 100 percent clean energy from ACEN’s diversified portfolio of solar, wind and geothermal power plants.
Hector Caunan, InLife executive vice president and chief property investment officer, said the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to placing sustainability at the core of its operations.
“InLife’s transition to renewable energy and adherence to globally recognized standards in environmentally safe infrastructure are efforts to lead by example and drive meaningful change toward a sustainable future,” he said.
By sourcing power from ACEN RES, the insurance giant is expected to advance its decarbonization goals while enhancing cost efficiency across its energy consumption.
“This collaboration is a testament to the increasing consciousness of businesses to not only manage their operational costs but also to create a positive environmental impact,” said Tony Valdez, ACEN senior vice president for market transformation.
The supply agreement was facilitated through the government’s green energy option program (GEOP), which empowers eligible consumers like InLife to choose their preferred renewables supplier.
The Department of Energy recently revised the rules and guidelines governing GEOP implementation, lowering the minimum eligibility threshold to enable more consumers to directly source clean power.
Under the updated rules, end-users with an average monthly peak demand of at least 50 kilowatts can now negotiate their renewables supply, a privilege previously available only to those using 100 kW and above.
Meanwhile, this latest partnership between ACEN and InLife builds on a supply deal signed last year covering the Insular Life Corporate Centre in Alabang and the Insular Life Makati building.
“We are committed to supporting InLife in achieving their green ambitions,” Valdez said.
