Today, 3 March 2025, marks the 80th Anniversary of the last day of the Battle of Manila.
Kulang na kulang sa diskurso paano tayo apektado nito hanggang ngayon.
80% of all structures in Manila were destroyed. In Intramuros, only 2 structures remained standing. 100,000 civilians were killed.
The Battle of Manila marked the end of Manila as the Pearl of the Orient.
It also marked the start of unequal treaties created by the Americans to exploit the Philippines, because we were desperate for aid and funds to rebuild. Because unlike Europe (which had the Marshal Plan), we were only given scraps-and we had to beg for them.
This is a big reason why Manila, and our country, is whv it is today.
We still haven't fully recovered.
