BUREAU of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gregorio Catapang Jr. has deployed 76 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) to the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) as part of intensified efforts to enhance security measures within the facility.
Catapang said the deployment is aligned with the directives from Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla regarding the transfer of inmates with drug-related convictions to SPPF, necessitating stricter security protocols.
Deputy director general for operations Gil Torralba, meanwhile, spearheaded the Task Force Sanib Puersa, a collaborative security initiative involving personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the PNP.

The multi-agency team conducted a successful greyhound operation within Camp Pasungi inside SPPF on Monday.
In line with these reinforcements, a greyhound operation was conducted in the camp, resulting in the confiscation of various contraband items.
Authorities recovered nine assorted cellphones, tobacco products including one rim and two packs of cigarettes, several cell phone chargers, and sixteen assorted bladed weapons.

According to Torralba's report to Catapang, the operation was efficiently executed with the assistance of SPPF recruits and PDEA K9 units, while BuCor personnel provided security and observational support.
