If Japan is known for its iconic convenience store nestled at the base of Mt. Fuji, the Philippines now offers a stunning parallel—a 7-Eleven with a front-row view of the majestic Mayon Volcano.
This particular branch, located at the Phoenix Gas Station along Camalig Bypass Road corner Pan-Philippine Highway in Camalig, Albay, has recently captured the attention of both tourists and netizens. The reason? A breathtaking, postcard-worthy view of Mayon Volcano—famed for its near-perfect cone shape—serving as the convenience store’s dramatic backdrop.
The captivating images, taken by Manila Bulletin reporter Niño Roces, show Mayon in all its glory, as if Daragang Magayon herself decided to pose for the camera. The volcano’s name is steeped in legend, inspired by the tragic love story of the beautiful maiden Magayon, a tale woven deep into Filipino folklore.
In interviews with some of the branch’s customers, many—especially students—shared that the location has become a go-to hangout. “It’s a perfect spot because you can clearly see the Mayon Volcano,” said one visitor, Bea Baldovino, a student from University of Sto. Tomas Legazpi.
Standing approximately 2,462 meters (8,077 feet) above sea level, Mayon Volcano is not just a scenic marvel—it’s also one of the Philippines’ most active volcanoes. In fact, it had a minor phreatic eruption as recently as July 2024, sending a plume of ash and steam about 656 feet into the sky. Despite its occasional restlessness, the volcano remains a key draw for travelers in the Bicol region.
Beyond snapping photos at this trending 7-Eleven spot, tourists can explore a variety of adventures in the area—ATV rides around Mayon's base, guided hikes, and, of course, indulging in Bicol’s spicy and savory cuisine.
Manila Bulletin Lifestyle has reached out to 7-Eleven Philippines for a comment on the branch’s growing fame, but as of this writing, no official statement has been released.
