BAGUIO CITY — The city's Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) is offering 300 slots and has drawn 638 student applicants this year, the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) said.
PESO Baguio Manager Michelle Agbuya said 475 are new applicants and the rest are old grantees.
The applicants will have to take a qualifying examination as part of the screening process to determine the 300 grantees.
The SPES qualifications are 15 to 30 years of age, bona fide Baguio residents, mentally and physically fit, with good moral character, with an annual family income not exceeding P169,824, and with a passing general weighted average grade.
The SPES is a yearly collaborative program of the city government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) mandated under Republic Act 7323 as amended by RA 9547 and further amended by RA 10917. It aims to help poor but deserving students finish their studies by giving them employment opportunities during their school breaks.

Under the program, the grantees will work as administrative aides with remuneration; 40 percent of the amount will be paid by the DOLE and 60 percent by the local government unit.
This year, the program will be done in two batches, from April to May and from June to July.
