THE National Housing Authority (NHA) on Tuesday revealed that it had already completed the construction of 53,917 housing units intended exclusively for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda.
As a result, NHA General Manager Joeben Tai said only 4,702 units were left for completion out of the 58,619 permanent housing requirements under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project (YPHP).
Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, whose agency has direct supervision over the NHA, expressed confidence that the remaining housing projects would be completed by December this year.
The DHSUD chief said that he was assured by Tai himself to fully finish the remaining housing units for Yolanda victims by the end of the year.
Out of the completed units, a 45,454 units were already occupied by the beneficiaries.

Last Friday, Acuzar accompanied President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the ceremonial turnover of 3,517 housing units in Burauen, Leyte, with House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The president had urged the housing agencies to build climate-resilient houses to ensure that each unit can withstand typhoons and other natural disasters, Acuzar said.
The housing units were located in Cool Spring Residences, Riverside Community Residences, Mont Eagle Ville Subdivision, Coconut Grove Village, Dagami Town Ville and Pastrana Ville, all in Leyte; Marabut Ville Sites 1 and 2 in Samar; and the Culaba Housing Project in Biliran.
Qualified YPHP beneficiaries received the housing units as a grant, at no cost, after being displaced by the onslaught of Yolanda in November 2013 and are residing in identified hazard-prone areas, the housing czar said.
