COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Four police officers and a government employee were killed after a patrol vehicle plunged into a ravine in Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental on Friday.
S/Sgt. Vilcon Macabugto, Patrolmen Louel Cordova, Neljie Marban and Rudilyn Pacut, and their civilian companion were declared dead on arrival in a nearby hospital.
Three other government employees were rushed to the same hospital for treatment of injuries.
The officers were members of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2PMCF)while the civilian fatality was an employee of the tourism office of the provincial government.
Reports said the officers were escorting organizers of a national beauty pageant and local tourism officials who were headed to the nearby Piduan Falls.
The vehicle was reportedly carrying seven members of the 2PMFC and three employees of the provincial government.
The driver was negotiating a winding road in Barangay Napangan when he reportedly lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to roll down the cliff.
The vehicle reportedly rolled over several times before it landed in a grassy spot.
