MANILA, Philippines — Forty-four areas across the country are expected to experience danger-level heat indices, with the "feels like" temperature forecast to reach as high as 44°C, state weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday, May 16.
A 44°C heat index was forecast in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Camiling, Tarlac; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Dumangas, Iloilo; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA said danger-level heat indices are also expected in parts of Metro Manila, including at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport area in Pasay City at 43°C and the Science Garden in Quezon City at 42°C.
Other areas forecast to reach 43°C include San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Alabat, Quezon; NAS-UPLB in Los Baños, Laguna; Coron and Cuyo in Palawan; Daet, Camarines Norte; Legazpi City, Albay; Juban, Sorsogon; CBSUA-Pili in Camarines Sur; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; Maasin, Southern Leyte; Dipolog City; Zamboanga City; and Surigao City.
Several other areas are expected to record heat indices of 42°C, including Dagupan City, Tuguegarao City, Baler, Iba, Clark Airport, Cubi Point, Hacienda Luisita, Tayabas City, Infanta, Puerto Princesa, Masbate City, BIA-Daraga, Roxas City, Mambusao, Catarman, Catbalogan, Tacloban City and Hinatuan.
The weather bureau also forecast lower but still hot conditions in several areas, with a heat index of 41°C expected in Aparri, ISU Echague, Casiguran, Romblon, Virac, Dumangas, La Granja, Catarman in Camiguin, Siquijor, Mactan International Airport, VSU-Baybay, Laguindingan Airport and Davao City.
A 40°C heat index was forecast over DMMMSU Bacnotan in La Union and CMU Agromet in Musuan, Bukidnon.
Health warnings. PAGASA said heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely under danger-level heat indices of 42°C to 51°C.
The heat index measures what the temperature feels like to the human body when air temperature is combined with relative humidity.
Overall forecast. PAGASA said the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
