MANILA, Philippines — Four politicians can put up a good fight against Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2028 general elections, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said yesterday.
Former vice president and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo will be a formidable opponent if she runs for the presidency, Remulla said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.
“I think Leni Robredo can wage a good fight,” he asserted.
Senators Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros and Raffy Tulfo, all of whom are part of the upper chamber’s majority bloc, can also challenge the Vice President’s 2028 bid, Remulla said.
Hontiveros has said she is open to running for president, while Aquino and Tulfo said they are not interested in a higher post.
Remulla described Duterte as a great candidate who has a compelling story.
The Vice President, however, is not invincible, he maintained.
Duterte is facing impeachment complaints over her alleged misuse of confidential funds, among others.
The Vice President has been campaigning for her father's release from detention at the International Criminal Court.
Remulla, meanwhile, sidestepped queries on his own political plans.
