Three hundred undernourished children in Gainza, Camarines Sur are set to benefit from GMA Kapuso Foundation's Give a Gift, Feed a Kid program.

According to "24 Oras" on Wednesday, among the beneficiaries of the feeding program are the children of Jessica Adricula and Eliza Dominguez. Their families have resorted to eating rice field rats to alleviate hunger, especially when finances are tight.

"Hinuhugan naman po naming nang maayos, talagang lutong-luto po siya bago namin kainin," said Eliza.

However, Gainza Municipal Health Officer Dr. Ivan Phillip Albay said that the Department of Health does not suggest eating rice field rates.

"Kasi most likely they are carriers of leptospirosis," he said.

"Sa age five to 10, usually rich in protein dapat kasi talagang development years nila 'yun," he added.

For Nutrition Month this July, GMA Kapuso Foundation will conduct a feeding program for three hundred children in Camarines Sur. The program will run for 120 days, providing the children with nutritious meals with help from the foundation's sponsors.

The foundation held a deworming activity for the kids ahead of the feeding program.

"Para po maalis 'yung mga parasites sa tiyan po kasi isa po 'to sa nagiging dahilan kung kaya't hindi tumataba ung bata, parang may kaagaw ba 'yung bata sa nutrisyon," said Gainza Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Carol Ivy Saballegue.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
