COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Three high school students were killed when their tricycle was hit by two trucks in Kapalawan, Cotabato on Friday.
The fatalities – Ghoyghoy Andres, Koking Silva and Wako Alburo – died at the scene of the accident, which occurred in Barangay Kitulaan.
Responding police officers rushed tricycle driver Junel Andres to the nearest hospital for treatment of injuries.
Reports said the victims were on their way to Barangay Poblacion in Carmen town when they figured in the accident along Sayre Highway.
Investigation showed the tricycle was first hit by an Isuzu truck.
The impact caused the tricycle to veer toward the opposite lane of the highway, where it collided with a 10-wheeler truck.
Truck drivers Joide Lomogdang and Lorenzo Bagacay surrendered to police after the incident. They were taken to the Kapalawan police station for questioning.
Meanwhile, in Pangasinan, a rider died after his motorcycle collided with a dump truck in Bani town on Friday.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately known, died at the scene of the accident, which occurred in Barangay San Jose at past midnight.
The truck driver surrendered to authorities. He was taken to a hospital for alcohol testing.
