BAGUIO CITY , Philippines — Three small-scale miners were found dead inside a tunnel in Mankayan, Benguet on Monday.

A retrieval operation was immediately launched after the discovery.

Police confirmed that the remains of two victims were transported to Baguio City where they resided, and for further examination.

The third victim was a resident of Mankayan.

The miners were last seen outside the mine located in Barangay Sapid last Friday.

Investigation showed the miners’ cause of death was asphyxia due to inhalation of toxic gas.
