MANILA, Philippines — Three people died while eight others were injured in a collision between a dump truck and a passenger jeepney in Luna, Isabela yesterday morning.
The fatalities – Mario dela Cruz, Josephine Domingo and John Rey Mendoza – died at the scene of the accident, which occurred in Barangay Mambabanga.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered an investigation into the incident and directed concerned offices and agencies to speed up the release of insurance benefits to the victims’ beneficiaries as well as to the injured passengers.
LTFRB chief Vigor Mendoza II directed the LTFRB-Cagayan Valley to prioritize assistance to the victims and their relatives.
Investigation showed the vehicles were traveling along Santiago-Cauayan Highway when the truck driver reportedly lost control of the wheel.
The truck crashed into the approaching jeepney, which rolled over due to the impact.
Some of the passengers were reportedly thrown off the jeepney after the vehicle’s roof was detached by the impact.
Mendoza said that show-cause orders would be issued to the operator of the jeepney and the truck to determine the roadworthiness of the vehicles.
