CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — Three Chinese nationals were arrested upon arrival at the Clark International Airport yesterday for allegedly carrying high-grade marijuana or kush valued at P70 million.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Central Luzon identified the suspects as Ang See, Kim Tan and Li Cheng.

The contraband was discovered at around 8:03 a.m. during a routine inspection conducted by personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on the suspects’ pieces of luggage.

The bags reportedly contained suspected dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops.

Investigation showed the suspects came from Thailand and were transiting at Clark before heading for Hong Kong.

The suspects were placed under the custody of the PDEA while the contraband was taken to the PDEA-Central Luzon laboratory for examination.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after receiving two balikbayan boxes containing shabu and dried marijuana leaves with a combined value of P78.1 million in Imus, Cavite, on Friday.

In coordination with the BOC, the PDEA conducted a sting against the suspect identified only as Moel in Barangay Bucandala I.

The boxes reportedly contained 25.44 kilos of marijuana and 11.48 kilos of shabu.

The suspect reportedly tried to bribe the PDEA agents with an unspecified amount of cash.

Apart from illegal drugs, PDEA operatives also recovered delivery receipts, cargo documents, a grinder, a glass tube with traces of marijuana and other paraphernalia.

Charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspect.
