MANILA, Philippines — The number of people applying to vote in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections later this year already reached 3.7 million, the Commission on Elections said.
In the Comelec data released yesterday, the poll body said it received 3,697,800 applications for voter registration, as of March 31.
Calabarzon posted the highest number with 610,859 applications, followed by Central Luzon (417,603), National Capital Region (372,503), Central Visayas (219,972) and Bicol (219,766).
The Cordillera Administrative Region had the fewest number of applicants with 50,465.
According to the Comelec, Caraga and Mimaropa regions also registered a low turnout with 110,775 and 110,809, respectively.
Comelec said applicants could use the special "register anywhere, anytime" program so they would not have to go to the provinces to file their applications.
The registration period will run until May 18.
