MANILA, Philippines —Almost 300 Filipinos repatriated from the Middle East arrived in the Philippines on Thursday, March 5, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported.
In a statement on March 5, the DMW said that 299 Filipinos landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 from Dubai.
Some of the returnees were advised by their employers to go home for safety reasons, while others were overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who had completed their contracts.
“We are thankful that you are all safe. Also, we are much thankful to the Emirates, to the UAE government for taking care of you, and for preparing a flight to Manila as we provide support,” Cacdac told the returning Filipinos.
The DMW provided the returning Filipinos with financial assistance, along with other forms of government support.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently advised Filipinos in the Middle East to stay put and seek shelter, as repatriation efforts have stalled due to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Marcos noted that at least 1,416 Filipinos have requested repatriation from the Middle East.
However, the president emphasized that attempting to evacuate them at this time would be dangerous due to limited information and the risk of friendly fire incidents.
