BACOLOD CITY — A total of 19 employees of Negros Occidental provincial government tested positive for illegal drug use, data provided by lawyer Rayfrando Diaz II, provincial administrator, showed.
Of the 19 employees found positive for illegal drugs, three are regular, seven are job order employees, three are contract of service employees, and six are security guards from a private security agency contractor of the Capitol.
Diaz said the provincial government has not renewed the contracts of the personnel, but not the regular employees who will be subjected to confirmatory tests.
If they still test positive, Diaz said they will be offered to undergo a drug rehabilitation program if they want to return to government service.
If they refuse the rehabilitation, Diaz said, they will be slapped with a case of grave misconduct.

Diaz said the drug test was conducted in December last year where 1,800 employees were subjected to a random drug test.
Of the Capitol employees tested, a total of 1,100 are from Capitol-based offices while the 700 others are assigned at the different district hospitals operated by the provincial government.
The drug test is part of the Capitol's commitment to have a drug- free workplace, Diaz said.
