MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections have been disqualified for violating campaign regulations during the October 2023 BSKE, the Commission on Elections said yesterday.
In an updated list of resolved petitions and election cases, the Comelec’s Second Division granted a petition for disqualification involving a candidate for barangay chairman in Quezon province, and 12 consolidated petitions involving barangay and SK candidates in Silang, Cavite.
Among those disqualified was Donald Ausa, who ran for barangay chairman in San Andres in Quezon during the 2023 BSKE.
The Comelec said Ausa was found liable for violating the Omnibus Election Code, which prohibits campaigning outside the authorized campaign period.
The poll body also found 12 candidates in Barangay Adlas in Silang liable for violating Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Election Act, which prohibits posting of campaign materials outside of designated common poster areas.
Those disqualified were Rowel Baldisimo, Mariano Begardon, Renzo Luis Generose, Benilda Lagoras, Gerardo Lintag, Hadrian Lloyd Mendoza, Perfecto Mendoza, Pablito Pasquil and Eugenio Solis, who ran for kagawad.
Also disqualified were John Denniel Cotoner, who ran for SK chairman, and SK members Jay Oliver Mendoza and Anne Elizabeth Peñaflor.
