MANILA, Philippines — The 5.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Sto. Domingo town in Albay on Friday affected 13,000 learners and damaged 83 classrooms, according to the Department of Education.
Information shared by DepEd yesterday showed that the temblor affected 20 public schools in Albay and Tabaco City school divisions.
The DepEd Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service reported 14 classrooms destroyed and 69 damaged. The DRRMS added that this affected 12,8976 learners and 568 personnel in both school divisions.
According to the DRRMS, at least P2.64 million is needed to cover the repairs on the classrooms, and another P674,000 for the cleanup and clearing operations.
The DepEd is currently conducting structural evaluations to ensure the safety of all school facilities.
