MANILA, Philippines — To ensure public safety amid increased travel and religious activities for the Holy Week, the National Capital Region Police Office has deployed 12,370 NCRPO personnel across Metro Manila.
Maj. Hazel Asilo, spokesperson for the NCRPO, said police would secure “areas of concern,” such as transport hubs, major roads, commercial centers and places of convergence.
Of the number of police deployment, 9,433 are NCRPO personnel, augmented by 431 from the Regional Support and Sustainment Force, 591 from other units and 2,346 from auxiliary groups.
Police will be stationed in 135 transport terminals in Metro Manila, with assistance desks set up to help commuters and strengthen security checks.
Authorities will also focus on 329 churches and places of worship to secure religious activities such as the Visita Iglesia.
Police have identified high-traffic sites, including grottoes and pilgrimage areas, where additional personnel will be assigned.
Asilo said no specific threats have been monitored so far, aside from rallies related to fuel price hikes being monitored by civil disturbance management units.
Police also urged the public to take precautions when leaving their homes for the Holy Week break.
“If you are leaving your homes unattended, make sure doors, windows and gates are locked. Keep valuables out of sight and ask trusted neighbors to check your house. Installing CCTV or alarm systems is also advisable,” Asilo said.
The Philippine National Police said more than 59,000 personnel have been mobilized nationwide under the PNP’s “Ligtas Semana Santa” program.
The PNP will remain on heightened alert for the Holy Week and summer vacation until May 31.
