COTABATO CITY — The public service efforts of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division received a boost with the opening of new camp facilities and the acquisition of a bus to transport soldiers, supporting the reintegration of hundreds of former New People’s Army guerrillas into mainstream society.
Radio reports on Saturday, May 2, said Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete and 10th ID commander Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon led last Tuesday the inauguration of new facilities at Camp Gen. Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro.
The newly opened structures include a multi-purpose warehouse-style shelter and rehabilitated facilities at the division’s training school, such as a tactical tower, mini grandstand, administrative building, library, and classroom.
The 10th ID headquarters is located at the camp in Barangay Tuboran, an upland area in Mawab, Davao de Oro, in Region 11.
In his message, Nafarrete said the new facilities complement the Philippine Army’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and troop welfare nationwide. The ceremony was capped by the blessing of the facilities and a newly acquired bus by a Catholic priest.
Luzon, for his part, said the division remains focused on strengthening its operational support system and troop readiness in responding to security concerns, as well as calamities and disasters.
Nafarrete also lauded the 10th ID for facilitating the surrender of more than 500 New People’s Army guerrillas over the past three years through coordination with local government units, with many of them reintegrated into their communities.
During his visit, Nafarrete conferred the Army Governance Pathway Institutionalized Status on the division in recognition of its sustained excellence in military service and governance support initiatives.
